乔万娜 Giovanna Puppin

Dr. Puppin   is Associate Professor in Chinese Studies, Department of Modern Languages and   Cultures, University of Genoa (2020-today).

Dr   Puppin obtained her PhD in Chinese Studies at Ca’ Foscari University Venice   (Italy) in 2009, where she worked as an Adjunct Professor. From 2013 to 2020,   she worked as a Lecturer in International Advertising in several UK   universities – Middlesex University, University of Westminster and University   of Leicester. While at the University of Leicester, she served as the   Programme Director of the top recruiting MA in Media and Advertising. In 2020, she returned to Italy where she   is currently employed as Associate Professor in Chinese Studies, University   of Genoa. She lived in China for more five years and obtained scholarships to   research advertising at Renmin University (Prof. Ni Ning), and Communication   University of China (Prof. Huang Shengming). In 2019, she was nominated Associate Researcher at the National Centre for Cultural   Innovation Research at Fudan University. From 2019 to 2022, she acted as External Examiner for   the Master of Science (MSc) in Advertising, Faculty of Business,   Technological University Dublin. In 2024, she was invited to deliver an   MA/PhD course entitled “"Advertising and Branding in Contemporary China:   Critical Explorations", University of Zurich. Her research   expertise includes Chinese advertising (commercial and public service) and   the creative industries, media and popular culture, country branding and soft   power, and Olympic design, on which she has written extensively.  

Her project “CreAD: UK-China Partnership on Creative   Advertising”, for which she was Principal Investigator, obtained a funding of   £25,000 from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). Research   activities for this project were carried out in Shanghai and Leicester   (February 2019–February 2020).
